What to Expect
Follow the instructions you received from your surgeon. The below represent general instructions that apply in most cases.
Preparing for Your Surgery
It is recommended you have someone drive you to and pick you up from the surgery center.
Stop eating and drinking as your surgeon has recommended – generally, it is the night before your appointment. In some cases, you may be advised to consume liquids only the day before your procedure. Again, check with your doctor to be sure.
Day of Your Surgery
Shower the day of your surgery as usual and take whatever medications your doctor has indicated you can take prior to your surgery. Do not use powder, deodorant, perfume, or cologne. Do not shave the area of your surgery.
Do not eat or drink, as your surgeon has recommended. This includes gum, mints, lozenges, etc.
Please be sure to arrive at North Naples Surgery Center 15-20 minutes ahead of your scheduled time so that you can fill out the necessary patient registration and insurance paperwork. If you have a co-pay, it will be collected at check-in.
Don’t bring any valuables with you and bring a case for dentures or eyeglasses so they do not get lost. You may wish to bring a jacket or sweater with you for the waiting room as it can be a little chilly.
Women of child-bearing age may be required to take a pregnancy test before the procedure.
After Your Surgery
If your doctor has so advised, make sure you have someone with you at home for a period of time following your procedure.
Do not make any financial or contract decisions for 24 hours after your surgery.
If you notice any swelling or pain that isn’t getting better, call your doctor. Someone from North Naples Surgery Center will call you one business day following your procedure to follow up with you.
Do you have questions about an upcoming procedure? Contact your surgeon, and if we at North Naples Surgery Center can help, you may reach us at (239) 529-2811.
