Before Surgery
Patients and prospective patients may request from this facility and other health care providers a more personalized estimate of charges and other information. Patients and prospective patients should contact every health care practitioner who will provide services in the ASC to determine the health insurers and health maintenance organizations with which they participate as a network or preferred provider.
It is important that you review and follow any preoperative instructions your doctor gives you. For your safety and protection, you will not be allowed to drive a motor vehicle following surgery. Therefore, please arrange for someone to drive you to and from the Surgery Center. You may also wish to arrange for someone to stay with you following your surgery.
If You Must Cancel Surgery
If for any reason you cannot keep your scheduled appointment for surgery or you experience any changes in your health, such as a cold or fever, please contact the Surgery Center immediately. This will assist us with our daily scheduling of procedures.
Day of Surgery
Bring your insurance card(s) and any forms that your doctor requested with you. If you do not speak English, you should arrange for an interpreter to accompany you throughout your visit to the Surgery Center. Leave all your valuables, including jewelry and watches, at home. Do not wear contact lenses or make-up.
Anesthesia
Your anesthesia will be provided by an anesthesiologist and a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) who is highly qualified in outpatient anesthesia. The appropriate type of anesthesia will be determined by your surgeon in consultation with the anesthesiologist/CRNA and with your approval. Your anesthesiologist/CRNA will answer any questions you may have before surgery. Even though your medications are listed on your patient chart, be sure to talk to your anesthesiologist/CRNA about any medications you are currently taking, even over-the-counter drugs and vitamins, as well as any allergies you may have to medications.
Recovery
Immediately following surgery, you will be taken to our fully-equipped recovery room where a nurse will closely monitor your blood pressure and pulse. The amount of time you spend in recovery will depend on the type of surgery and/or anesthesia you have had. Most likely your entire visit in the Surgery Center will be between one to two hours.
After Surgery
Before you leave the Surgery Center, a nurse will review a written summary of your doctor’s postoperative instructions with you. When you return home, be sure to carefully follow your doctor’s specific instructions regarding diet, rest, activities, and medications. One of our nurses will call you after surgery to see how you’re doing. At any time, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call your doctor or the Surgery Center.
You will receive a patient survey following your procedure. We appreciate you taking the time to fill it out, as your comments and experience are important in helping us maintain a center dedicated to quality care and surgical excellence.
